Ndarakwai Ranch – Comments
This ‘luxury of privacy’ camp is an ideal place for those who prefer to set
up an individual schedule right on the spot, such as to go watching animals
on foot or in a car at any time of day or night, rather than at eight
o’clock sharply with a group of other people. It is also a good place for
those who do not want to move every other day with a group of others and
sleep at a different place, as proposed by 95 percent of travel agencies.
This is an ideal place for people who want to feel the real nature of
Africa. Within just four days of my stay at Ndarakwai, I could see a couple
of gazelles grazing just two metres away from the terrace of my tent; during
a dinner, three elephants were passing by the open dining hall in a distance
of some 50 metres; the following morning a herd of Sykes monkeys were
passing by the dining hall; and a couple of times I almost hit a young
gazelle crossing my way on the path leading to my tent.
No electricity is available in tents; kerosene lamps or candles are used
instead, which gives an authentic and romantic impression of tents and their
surroundings. Batteries for cameras and computers can be charged at the
reception under a big sycamore tree where a solar energy generator is placed
along with a WiFi connection.
According to my estimate, you can spend up to four days at the camp without
being bored for a single minute.
