Egypt has a number of international airports, but two principal ports of entry are Cairo International Airport and El Nouzha International Airport in Alexandria. Cairo International is the home of national carrier Egypt Air, and is served by some 40 other international airlines offering regular connections between Cairo and most European and regional capitals. Cairo International is second to Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg as the busiest airport in Africa, while El Nouzha in Alexandria tends to be more of a regional hub with some 15 regional and local airlines serving the facility.
It is generally agreed that any incoming flights to Egypt are cheaper via Europe, with bargain holiday packages along with accommodation vouchers sometimes turning out to be cheaper than a regular flight. It goes without saying that if you do not like the accommodation offered you have nothing to lose by throwing away the vouchers and striking out alone.
Increasingly international flights are landing at a number of smaller international airports scattered around the country, including Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Sharm el-Sheikh. These are serviced by a number of the smaller chartered companies that offer direct flights from Europe to Egypt. These airports are also hubs for both domestic and regional flights.
Egypt Air offers direct flights from the far east, specifically Bangkok, Beijing, Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur, Osaka-Kansai, and several destinations in the middle east. It also offers regular direct flights to Cairo from John F. Kennedy Airport in New York. Egypt also services destinations throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
